The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has filed a lawsuit with the High Anti-Corruption Court to seize the assets of Mykola Azarov and his son Oleksiy Azarov for the benefit of the state, UNN reports, citing a statement from the Ministry of Justice.
The Ministry of Justice is asking the court to apply a sanction in the form of seizing assets belonging to the defendants directly or indirectly for the benefit of the state. This includes, in particular, real estate and land plots in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, funds, corporate rights, as well as valuable property — books, icons, and jewelry
Background
Mykola Yanovych Azarov served as the Prime Minister of Ukraine from 2010 to 2014. Following the Revolution of Dignity, he left Ukraine and publicly supported Russia's actions aimed at the annexation of Crimea, while also spreading narratives that denied the legitimacy of the Ukrainian government. After the start of the full-scale invasion, he continued to provide informational support to the aggressor state, disseminating Russian propaganda talking points to justify the war against Ukraine.
Oleksiy Mykolayovych Azarov is a former People's Deputy of Ukraine of the VII convocation. After 2014, he moved to the Russian Federation, where he conducts business. According to available data, through his business structures, he pays taxes to the budget of the aggressor state and provides material and technical support for the armed aggression against Ukraine.
