German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, during a meeting with the new Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar in Berlin, called on him to support European policy regarding Ukraine, UNN reports with reference to Bild.
We want to help ensure the success of this new beginning in Hungary. We understand that Budapest wants to first clarify bilateral issues, such as the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine. But this must not come at the expense of European support for Kyiv
Magyar stated that he is ready to meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy next week, but linked the normalization of relations to the protection of the rights of approximately 100,000 ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine.
At the same time, he made it clear that Hungary under his government would not send weapons or military personnel to Ukraine. Earlier, after his victory over Viktor Orbán, Magyar lifted the block on the 90-billion EU loan for Ukraine.
