The President's Office wants to take away Kyrylo Budanov's position as head of military intelligence and appoint a "more loyal person to the government" in his place. This was reported to NV by a source in the security and defense sector of Ukraine, UNN reports.
Details
According to the newspaper, attempts to release Budanov may intensify in December. According to the source, this process is being lobbied by the head of the Prosecutor General's Office, Andriy Yermak, and the deputy head of the SBU, Oleksandr Poklad. It is the latter who wants to be appointed as the head of the GUR, the representative of the security and defense sector added.
Meanwhile, an NV source on Bankova Street noted that some of the DIU chief's public steps and statements have harmed Ukraine. In particular, these are special operations in Africa, statements about "coffee in Crimea" or defense procurement in other countries.
"There is an objective reality and objective wrong decisions. Is it necessary to take responsibility for this? The president will decide," the source said.
The publication did not receive an official response from the OP.
In a comment to NV, the SBU press service denied the information about plans to appoint Poklad as the head of the GUR. They noted that "information injections about the deputy head of the SBU appear systematically once a month and have a similar style." According to the SBU, the topics of such IPSOs are quite wide: from various conspiracy theories, "sensations" about the situation at the front to alleged personnel reshuffles and conflicts between the heads of the Security and Defense Forces, etc.
At the same time, the special service assured that such rumors have no basis in fact.
