French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a debate on the role of nuclear weapons in the common defense of Europe. This was reported by Tagesschau, UNN reports.

Macron proposes to start a debate "that should cover missile defense, long-range capabilities and nuclear weapons for those who have them or who have American nuclear weapons on their soil.
"Let's put everything on the table and see what really protects us," Macron added.
He also noted that France is ready to "make a greater contribution to the defense of Europe."
After Brexit, France is the only nuclear power in the European Union. Macron has already called for strengthening European defense in a speech at the Sorbonne University in Paris on Thursday.
"Our Europe is mortal, it can die, and it depends on our decisions," Macron said.
He called for a "robust" European defense. France's nuclear deterrent is "the most important element of the defense of the European continent," Macron explained.
