Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is 1% ahead of Republican Donald Trump, closing the gap that has been formed in recent weeks when Trump's rival was current US President Joe Biden. This was reported on the evening of July 30 by Reuters, based on a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, UNN reports.
Details
The three-day poll, completed on July 28, showed that Harris was supported by 43% of registered voters and Trump by 42% (the margin of error is 3.5%). A Reuters/Ipsos poll last week also showed an increase in Harris's rating.
Kamala Harris, 59, has strengthened her position as the Democratic nominee in the last 10 days after Joe Biden, 81, bowed to pressure from within his party and dropped out of the race. Since then, Harris has received a surge in donations and support.
The poll showed that registered voters preferred Trump's approach to the economy, immigration, and crime, while voters thought Harris' health care plan was better.
The survey involved 1,025 American adults, including 876 registered voters, and was conducted online in English from July 26 to 28.
