Head of European Union diplomacy Kaja Kallas stated that despite defense cooperation with the United States, Europe must strengthen its efforts to strengthen its own defense industry. This is reported by UNN with reference to the European External Action Service.

Of course, the defense cooperation we have with the Americans is also very important. When we have a "White Paper", we also think about what else we can do for our own defense industry, because now we buy a lot from the Americans

- Kallas explained.

The head of diplomacy stressed that the European Union must be able to produce ammunition and other necessary things on its own. In addition, it should be possible to buy weapons and ammunition from other allies, not only the United States.

But we need to diversify our portfolio so that we can produce here - ammunition and things we need here - and also be able to buy from other allies so that we have a diversified portfolio in that regard

- she noted.

The Deputy Head of the European Commission added that Europe's strength lies primarily in its unity and willingness to support others.

Europe - we are strong when we are together. There are different countries that have different problems, and we have always supported those who have problems, even if countries on the other side of Europe do not have them

- added Kallas.

On March 19, 2025, the European Commission presented the "White Paper on European Defence - Readiness 2030". This document consists of an introduction and eight sections and contains a new defence strategy of the European Union.

The document outlines the vision of the leaders of the European Union on what the EU's defence strategy should be, given the changes in the geopolitical situation after Donald Trump came to power. The document also describes the strategy for further support for Ukraine in its confrontation with Russia.
