According to Copernicus' confirmation to Reuters, the average daily temperature recorded on Sunday surpassed the previous record set in 1940. Climate change, driven by the burning of fossil fuels, caused extreme temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere last year, when records were broken on four consecutive days from July 3-6.
Since June 2023, each month has set a new temperature record in the global history of weather records. According to Copernicus, the high temperatures of 2024 could exceed the records of 2023, especially after the end of the El Niño weather phenomenon in April, which also contributed to the increase in temperatures.
