Jamie Oliver has withdrawn his children's book from sale after criticism from representatives of Australia's indigenous population. First Nations communities have condemned the fantasy novel as offensive and harmful, the Guardian writes.
On Sunday, Penguin Random House UK informed the publication that Billy and Epic Escape will be withdrawn from sale in all countries where it holds the rights, including the UK and Australia.
Oliver, who is currently in Australia promoting his new cookbook, apologized to the indigenous peoples.
I am shocked that I have caused offense and apologize from the bottom of my heart. It was never my intention to misinterpret this deeply sensitive topic. Together with my publishers, we have decided to withdraw the book from sale
