On Monday, December 23, Defense Minister Israel Katz said that Israel was behind the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, leader of Hamas's political wing, in late July. This was reported by The Times of Israel, according to UNN.
Details
Katz referred to the Yemeni Houthis who are firing missiles into Israeli territory. The minister recalled that Israel had defeated Hamas and Hezbollah, and had also “blinded” Iran's air defense systems and damaged Iran's missile production systems.
We will strike at the strategic infrastructure (of the Houthis - ed.) and behead their leaders. Just as we did to Haniyeh, Sinwar (Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar - ed.) and Nasrallah (Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah - ed.) in Tehran, Gaza and Lebanon, we will do the same in Hodeidah and Sanaa (Yemeni cities - ed.),
Recall
In July of this year, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Iran, prompting threats of Israeli retaliation. The assassination heightened concerns about the expansion of the Gaza conflict into the Middle East.
