Iran and the United States have made no progress in talks on restoring the temporary peace agreement concluded in June. The parties accuse each other of violating the agreements, while the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked.

Iran and the United States have made no progress in talks on restoring the temporary peace agreement concluded in June, a senior Iranian source said on August 12. Reuters reports this, writes UNN.

Details

According to the source, the parties are discussing through mediators the possibility of returning to the arrangements and the timelines for fulfilling their commitments, but the talks have produced no result.

One of the issues being discussed through mediators is the United States' return to the temporary agreement and the establishment of time frames for fulfilling its commitments. Absolutely no progress has been made on this issue

- the Iranian source said.

The June agreement provided for an immediate cessation of military operations on all fronts. At the same time, on July 7, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the end of the arrangements, and a week later Iran announced their suspension.

Tehran and Washington blame each other

The United States accuses Iran of failing to fulfill the arrangements regarding the restoration of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran, in turn, says that Washington violated its commitments, in particular regarding the lifting of the blockade of Iranian ports and the return of frozen assets.

Iran also denied reports of an alleged agreement to extend the 60-day period stipulated by the June agreement.

There is no discussion of an extension because, from Iran's point of view, there is no period that has begun, and therefore there is nothing to extend. The United States violated the temporary agreement 48 hours after it was reached and withdrew from it several days later

- the source told Reuters.

The situation is being complicated by new attacks on shipping in the region. The Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, and before the conflict began, approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas flows passed through it.
