The semi-official Iranian news agency Fars called Trump's words "far from reality." Tehran stated that even if an agreement is reached, the Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iranian control.
The report states that Iran is ready to allow shipping volumes to return to pre-war levels, but this "does not mean free passage." According to the agency, Iran will continue to determine routes, transit times, and issue permits.
Tehran announced the retention of control
"Management of the strait, determination of the route, time, method of passage, and issuance of permits will remain exclusively under the control and discretion of the Islamic Republic of Iran,"
Thus, Iran has effectively rejected Trump's assertion that, under a potential deal, the Strait of Hormuz would be fully opened to international shipping without restrictions.
