In the Odesa region, a serviceman has been detained who, according to the investigation, demanded 23,000 dollars to influence a decision by the Military Medical Commission (VLC) and facilitate discharge from service. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, according to UNN.
Under the procedural guidance of the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the sphere of defense of the Southern Region, a serviceman of one of the military units has been notified of suspicion on the fact of abuse of influence (Part 3 of Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, in June 2024, the 33-year-old officer of a reserve battalion offered a fellow serviceman assistance in undergoing a repeat military medical commission and obtaining medical reports that could serve as grounds for declaring him unfit for further service.
For his services, he demanded 23,000 US dollars, claiming he had influence over VLC officials and could ensure the cancellation of a previous conclusion and the adoption of a new one—regarding unfitness for military service, which would provide the opportunity to be discharged from the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspect in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while receiving the illegal benefit. During the investigative actions, funds, a mobile phone, and the suspect's car were seized.
The court has ordered a measure of restraint in the form of 24-hour house arrest.
