In the Kyiv region, a serviceman who had gone AWOL (absent without leave) killed the 17-year-old daughter of an acquaintance with whom he had been consuming alcohol. The perpetrator was detained and notified of suspicion of intentional homicide. This was reported by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, who added that the mother of the deceased has two other children remaining—they have been removed from the family, UNN reports.
Details
According to the investigation, in the Kyiv region, a mother left her three children home alone and went to consume alcohol in the company of acquaintances. During the night, one of them remembered that he held a grudge against his friend's daughter. The 28-year-old man took a knife, went to the friend's house, and killed the 17-year-old child.
Nastya would have turned 18 in August. She dreamed of becoming a pastry chef. She was making plans. She wanted to live. But her life was cut short in her own home. In the place where a child should feel most protected
According to the Prosecutor General, the criminal was promptly detained. He admitted his involvement in the crime. He has been notified of suspicion on the fact of intentional homicide (Clause 13, Part 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to the investigation, he is a serviceman who left his military unit without authorization. He had previously been convicted of intentional homicide.
For the prosecutor's office, there are no compromises here. A person who took a knife and killed a child must face the most severe punishment possible. But there are other questions in this story. Why was the child left alone with danger for years? How did it happen that there was no adult nearby to protect her? If the relevant services knew about the mother's improper fulfillment of parental duties, alcohol abuse, or dangerous conditions for the children, but failed to respond appropriately—these actions or inactions will also receive a legal assessment. Because justice consists not only of punishing the one who killed. It lies in establishing the entire chain of decisions, inaction, and indifference that made this tragedy possible
Furthermore, according to him, the two younger children, aged 11 and 8, have already been removed from the family and placed under the care of the children's services.
It is impossible to bring Nastya back. But we are obliged to honestly answer to society why the state was unable to protect this child. If someone turned a blind eye for years to the danger in which the children lived, everyone will be held accountable. Because when a child dies due to the indifference of adults, it is not just a personal tragedy. It is a verdict on a system that failed. And our task is to do everything to ensure such a verdict never happens again
