According to Galveston police, authorities arrived at the scene at Pleasure Pier in Galveston around 5:35 p.m. local time on Thursday, where the Iron Shark roller coaster had malfunctioned.
According to officials, eight people were on the ride when it came to a halt.
The Galveston Fire Department used a ladder truck to extract the stranded passengers one by one using safety harnesses, a process that took about three and a half hours.
The malfunction was shown live by local television stations, depicting passengers stuck near the top of the ride's 30-meter vertical lift.
Officials have not disclosed what caused the ride to malfunction.
