"Odesa region: firefighters extinguished a fire of dry grass and shrubs on an area of 20 thousand square meters It took two hours and several tons of water to put out the fire. However, the fire did damage a local cemetery and a non-residential building. Fortunately, there were no casualties," the State Emergency Service reported on social media.
In total, 186 fires broke out in Ukrainian ecosystems over the past day, covering an area of almost 140 hectares. The hottest spots were in Dnipropetrovs'k region (56 fires covering 45.03 hectares), Odesa region (35 fires covering 16.09 hectares) and Kharkiv region (16 fires covering 14.34 hectares).
"Dry, hot weather and gusts of wind contribute to the emergence and rapid spread of fire, but the greatest danger is human negligence and ignoring the rules of fire handling," the agency said.
"Once again, we urge everyone: do not start an open fire, think about the consequences," the SES emphasized.
