US Vice President Kamala Harris is interviewing 6 potential vice presidential candidates this weekend before making an official announcement and touring the battlefield with her new running mate next week, AP reports, citing sources, UNN writes.

Her list is said to include Governors Andy Beshear of Kentucky, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania and Tim Walz of Minnesota, as well as Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, according to two people briefed on Harris' selection process.
Shapiro and Kelly were reportedly seen as favorites during her abbreviated selection process, which began with vetting about a dozen names. Some have publicly withdrawn from consideration, such as North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, who is close to Harris from their time together as state attorney general, who has expressed concerns about regular out-of-state travel if he were on the Democratic national ticket.
Her deadline to choose a running mate is actually Tuesday, when Harris will begin a tour of seven key swing states, starting in Philadelphia.
Some of the people on Harris's list were said to have suddenly canceled their plans for this weekend, signaling that something might be going on in the vice presidential selection process. For example, Shapiro canceled three fundraisers over the weekend in coastal communities on the Long Island, New York, coast, and his spokesman Manuel Bonder gave no explanation as to why.
