The German government has issued an urgent warning to its citizens to leave Lebanon due to a significant deterioration in the security situation in the region. The report notes that military clashes in the border area between Lebanon and Israel have escalated in recent weeks. Since October 8, 2023, Hezbollah and other armed groups have been shelling Israel from Lebanon.
Of particular concern are the southern regions of Lebanon, including the southern urban areas of Beirut and the Bekaa Valley. At present, the possibility of further escalation of the conflict cannot be ruled out, which could lead to the suspension of air traffic through Rafik Hariri Airport.
Due to tensions in the region, demonstrations and unrest are also possible. German citizens are advised to avoid large crowds, rallies and demonstrations. In case of hearing shots, they are advised to take shelter immediately.
The German Foreign Ministry urges citizens to take advantage of available commercial flights to evacuate and to register on the crisis preparedness list. Citizens are also warned that it is impossible to enter Turkey by land from Syria, and that the German Embassy cannot provide consular support in Syria.
