The German Federal Government will participate in several projects to help Syria. A total of 60 million euros will be allocated for these purposes. However, the money will not be sent directly to the Syrian authorities. This was reported by DW with reference to the Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany Svenja Schulze, UNN reports.

Details

According to Schulze, the humanitarian situation in Syria after the fall of the Assad regime is catastrophic - 90% of the population lives in poverty and depends on humanitarian aid. Much of the local infrastructure was destroyed during the civil war that has been going on since 2011.

Reconstruction projects in Syria, in which Germany will participate, will be implemented through non-governmental and international organizations. In particular, 25 million euros are to go to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). In addition, the funds will be used to help children traumatized by war. And €6 million will be allocated to support the organization of local schools.

Another 19 million euros will go to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which, among other things, organizes work for internally displaced persons. The UN Foundation, which supports Syrian women's rights organizations, will receive 3 million euros, and the remaining 7 million will be allocated to local non-governmental organizations that are engaged in "reconciliation of different groups of the population,

- the statement said.

Schulze pointed out that Germany has clearly articulated its expectations for change in Syria: an education system free of ideology, discrimination and exclusion. "If the development goes in the right direction, we are ready to do more in other areas," she added.
