France has raised its flag at its embassy in Damascus for the first time in 12 years as the new Syrian government establishes contacts with the West. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.
Details
At the same time, France said that raising the flag does not automatically mean reopening its embassy.
The governments of Britain and France sent representatives to negotiate with the Syrian authorities, and the European Union said it was preparing to establish contacts with Damascus.
In turn, German diplomats are also planning talks with the new Syrian government. They will focus on the transition process for Syria and the protection of minorities. Germany is also exploring the possibility of a diplomatic presence in Damascus.
Recall
As UNN previously reported , four French diplomats left for Syria on December 17 to establish their first contacts with the new government. The mission aims to restore French influence and assess the humanitarian needs of the population.
Also, the Secretary of the Syrian transitional government, Obaida Arnaout , called on Russia to reconsider its military presence in the country after the overthrow of the Assad regime. The new government is negotiating with other countries and seeking to establish international relations.
