According to the investigation materials, at the time his condition deteriorated, his wife Sky Daily Hogan, a caregiver, and an occupational therapist were with Hogan at home. After calling emergency services, they performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Relatives told investigators that in the final weeks of his life, the wrestler had serious health problems, including leukemia, cardiac arrhythmia, pneumonia, and kidney failure.
A local medical examiner determined the cause of death was a heart attack. A private autopsy conducted at the family's request confirmed this conclusion and found no signs of trauma or toxicological factors that could have caused the death.
