FIFA has lowered the price of some World Cup tickets for fans after a global backlash. Tickets will cost up to $60. This is reported by the Associated Press, according to UNN.
Details
FIFA said the $60 tickets would be available for every game of the tournament in North America and would go to national federations whose teams are playing. These federations decide how to distribute them among dedicated fans who have attended previous games both at home and away
It is noted that the number of $60 tickets per game will likely be in the hundreds, not thousands, in what FIFA now calls the "fan entry level" price category.
FIFA did not specify why it so abruptly changed its strategy, but said the lower prices "are intended to further support fans traveling and following their national teams throughout the tournament."
The cheapest prices range from $120 to $265 for group stage games that did not involve co-hosts – the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Criticism from fans, especially in Europe, about plans for "dynamic pricing" plus additional fees on the FIFA-run resale platform, has been growing for months – both features common in the US entertainment industry but not for football fans globally.
Recall
Five million requests for tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, were sold since the opening of the last stage of ticket sales, despite criticism of their cost.
