Ophthalmologist Serhiy Rykov, MD, has already exchanged two of his own paintings for a drone and supplies for 3D facial bone modeling for the military. He also dreams of painting a large painting and exchanging it for a tank. Rykov told about this to the journalist of UNN.

This year, the Refractive Plein Air conference was held at the Ukrainian House, and an exhibition of ophthalmologists' paintings was held. The exhibition featured paintings by ophthalmologist, MD Serhiy Rykov.

After the exhibition, two of Rykov's paintings were exchanged for a drone and supplies for a surgical intervention for a military man.

“A week later, my friends contacted me and said that they really wanted to buy a painting for a famous prosthetist who treats the military for his birthday. They wanted to give him a painting with a sunny bunny because it stuck to him. He performs complex operations every day, and here is such a good thing - a sunny bunny. They called and said, “The drone is ready, where is your work?” This painting is already in the doctor's office because the benefactors donated it and bought the drone, which has already been delivered to the 72nd Brigade. It will go to the front. The drone is a Mavic, which can lift up to 10 kilograms, so it is a combat drone,” Rykov said.

The doctor noted that the painting was presented to maxillofacial surgeon Yuriy Chepurnyi. He is engaged in reconstructive facial surgery at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Kyiv Regional Hospital.

Rykov said that the painting that was exchanged for the drone  is called “Endorphinchik”.

“It's like a sunny bunny, something that is missing now. It's almost transparent, and this ball, with a yellow spot in the center, is the macula, the center of vision, and the main thing in this picture is to improve your vision, life, and mood,” Rykov explained.

According to the doctor of medical sciences, the second painting “Carpathians Shrouded in Legend” was exchanged for consumables for the military, including 3D modeling of the jaw and facial bones.

“I often vacation in Skhidnytsia. There is a pass to Rybnychanka. I myself love to fish on Rybnychanka and when you go up the mountain, there is the Stryi River below. It is extremely beautiful, but it is never full, only in early spring, and I painted it full. The benefactor liked this work and paid for all the consumables for the soldier. These are 3D modeling, orbits, etc. It may be even more expensive than a drone,” Rykov said.

The doctor said that nowadays it is quite often necessary to perform combined surgeries for wounded soldiers, and ophthalmologists perform them together with maxillofacial surgeons.

“It's not just about eyesight, we are building a person's future, a society, which means that a person has to work. We perform plastic surgeries and insert prostheses. You can't even see that the person is injured,” Rykov said.

Rykov said that an exhibition of artworks by ophthalmologists called “The Art of Seeing” has been launched.

“We will continue to write works, we will sell them, i.e. exchange them, and it can be not only roads, but also, for example, guns,” Rykov said.

In addition, the doctor said he wanted to paint a large-scale canvas and exchange it for a tank, and described the concept of his future work.

“I want to write only about good, about people. In general, I wanted to paint a big picture of my life. From Uzyn, where I was born, near Bila Tserkva. The Uzynka river is small but very bright, and I spent my childhood there. From there a narrow river flowed, and we have a wider river, the Ros in Bila Tserkva, but the Dnipro is the widest river, and it is, as it were, my life's road. This is a river that grows, and then the Black Sea flows into the Dnipro. This will be the river of my life, from Uzynka to the Dnipro and the Black Sea. This will be my painting,” Rykov said.

Rykov also spoke about other paintings he has already created: “War” and ‘Renaissance’.

“War”... That's the title, but it's a very beautiful picture. Yes, there is a lot of red. But there is a beautiful city on the horizon. Someone might think that it is burning, but in fact it is glowing with living yellow lights. That is, it is a recovery. I also have a wonderful work that I called “Renaissance”. It's my favorite color, I was looking for it all the time, and then I found it - it's a Tiffany color. It has a four-digit paint mixing, which means it cannot be faked. Tiffany means prosperity, joy, and abundance,” Rykov explained.

Physician and artist Serhiy Rykov donated a painting of his own to UNN . This is a nice and expensive gift for us, but we are ready to exchange the painting to help our military. You can write to us on Telegram.

Dr. Rykov also has other paintings that he would be happy to exchange for help for the military.
