Update
On June 22, Unai Melgosa left the position of head coach of the Ukraine U-21 youth national team.
Melgosa began his work in July 2023. Under the guidance of the Spanish coach, the Ukraine U-21 national team qualified for the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Since February 2024, Dmytro Mykhailenko has been in charge of the Ukraine U-19 and U-18 national teams. As the coach of the youth team, Mykhailenko qualified for Euro-2024, participated in the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup (first place in the group, loss to Spain 0:1 in the round of 16), reached the semi-finals of Euro-2026, and secured the youth team's qualification for the U-20 World Cup.
The change of position means a lot to me. First, I am very happy. Second, it is a great honor and responsibility for me to be the U-21 coach. This means I will have to work more, because these are guys who in a year or two could get into the national team. So even more attention needs to be paid to details, selection and work
According to him, the task from the management for the team is to prepare for the next two games, because there are chances to reach the Euro-2027 playoffs.
In September, Ukraine will play against Turkey, and in October against Croatia. Currently, Ukraine occupies third place in the group with 8 points, trailing the mentioned teams.
