Denmark's King Frederik X will visit Greenland next month to demonstrate support for local residents after several weeks of intense pressure from the US administration, which seeks to gain control of the Arctic island. This was reported by Bloomberg, writes UNN.

The announcement comes amid diplomatic tensions between the US and Denmark, sparked by repeated statements from President Donald Trump that Greenland is needed by the United States for national security and defense reasons. Last week, Trump ruled out the use of military force and agreed to work on a deal to expand the American presence on the Arctic island without annexing it.
The monarch will visit the semi-autonomous territory, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, in the week beginning February 16, Frederik said on Thursday, speaking to reporters during a state visit to Lithuania.
The well-being of Greenland is very close to my heart, especially in these weeks. The morale of the Greenlanders certainly needs to be supported.
The King has a long-standing personal connection to Greenland and last visited the island in April of last year. In 2000, he served in an elite military unit — the Sirius Patrol — patrolling northeastern Greenland by dog sled for four months.
"We are well aware of how significant the support for Greenland, its people, and the Kingdom of Denmark has been from our close allies," the King told reporters. "This is very reassuring and extremely important."
