Petr Pavel called on NATO to shoot down Russian aircraft and disconnect the country from the internet and banks. He believes the Alliance must "show its teeth" to Russia

Czech President Petr Pavel has called on NATO to respond to Russian provocations with decisive and asymmetric measures. This was reported by The Guardian, according to UNN.

Details

The former general believes that the Alliance must "show its teeth" in response to Russia's repeated testing of the Alliance's resolve on its eastern flank.

Among the specific measures, Pavel mentioned disabling the Russian internet and satellites, cutting off Russian banks from international financial systems, and shooting down unmanned and manned aircraft that violate NATO airspace.

"If airspace violations continue, we must come to a decision to shoot down both unmanned and manned aircraft. ... If we do not propose our own ideas, we will look weak and disoriented,"

- said the Czech President.

He also expressed disappointment with the "lack of US resolve in pressuring Russia," although he refrained from direct criticism of Donald Trump.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces, General Karel Řehka, stated that Ukraine should join NATO in the future, as it is the next "logical step."
