Customs officials uncover scheme for illegal sale of over 4.7 thousand vehicles imported for the AFU

The suspects imported 4,700 vehicles as humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine through charitable foundations. The vehicles were illegally sold online for profit.

A large-scale scheme for the illegal import of vehicles under the guise of humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been uncovered in Ukraine. According to the investigation, the suspects imported over 4,700 vehicles into the country through charitable organizations, subsequently selling them via the internet and messaging apps for profit. This was reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine, according to UNN.

As a result of joint measures by the State Customs Service of Ukraine and law enforcement agencies, a criminal scheme for the illegal import and sale of vehicles moved across the customs border of Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been exposed,

- the report states.

The suspects organized the import of vehicles by submitting documents to customs authorities that contained false information regarding the final destination of the vehicles.

As part of the exposure of the illegal activity, the State Customs Service of Ukraine, together with the SBU, documented 18 instances of the suspects selling vehicles. In total, 4,705 vehicles were imported into the territory of Ukraine under this scheme.

The perpetrators imported vehicles under the guise of humanitarian aid through charitable and public organizations, and subsequently sold them to third parties via internet platforms and messaging apps for the purpose of making a profit.

 Thus, during another sale, the realization of three vehicles imported into Ukraine as humanitarian aid was halted. As a result of subsequent authorized searches, customs declarations, consignment notes, and certificates of acceptance and transfer of humanitarian aid were discovered, among other items.

Currently, the violators have been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 201-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - illegal use of humanitarian aid for the purpose of obtaining profit. The court has ordered a preventive measure for the suspects in the form of detention with the right to post bail.
