Pilots of the British Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy will receive a new advanced cruise missile after the first successful test of the SPEAR guided missile. This was reported by the press service of the British Ministry of Defense, UNN reports.
Details
The ministry's press release says that SPEAR, a new generation small cruise missile with a turbojet engine, has successfully passed the test after being launched from a BAE Systems Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet at the Vidsel test site in Sweden.
It is noted that this is the first time the weapon was used against a target.
The department noted that the missile can be used against air defense systems, ships, tanks, fortified buildings, and fast-moving vehicles. The SPEAR missiles are to be installed on F-35 fighter-bombers, which will be able to operate from air bases or aircraft carriers such as the Queen Elizabeth.
F-35 aircraft will be able to carry eight SPEAR missiles at once
