According to the Financial Times, this figure is 56% higher than the current spending level of 2.3% and “is considered a completely unrealistic demand given the limited British finances.” But the expert, in his comments to the FT, emphasized that such a level of spending “would be desirable” in the UK Ministry of Defense.

So far, only 23 of NATO's 33 members have met the current spending target of 2 percent of GDP.
