Today, on April 2, Ukraine celebrates the Day of the Dog Handler, UNN reports.

It was on April 2, 1994, that the Dog Training Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was established. However, the practice of training dogs for law enforcement and other roles has been developing in Ukraine for over 70 years.

Service dogs in Ukraine, trained by dedicated dog handlers, perform a variety of important tasks. They are involved in the search for drugs and explosives, detention of criminals, service at checkpoints, search and rescue operations, demining, etc.

Dog Handler's Day goes beyond law enforcement and rescue services. It is a celebration of all those who breed dogs, train guide dogs for the visually impaired or search and rescue dogs, and those who teach dogs various commands. It is a day when we recognize and appreciate the silent but deep communication and bond between people and dogs.

Today you can also join the celebration of International Children's Book Day. The event was launched in 1967 at the initiative of the International Board on Books for Young People. The date of the celebration was set in honor of the birthday of the world-famous Danish children's writer Hans Christian Andersen, who was born on April 2, 1805.

The first children's works were stories, narratives, stories, and songs that were transmitted orally. They were intended to entertain and educate children.

Thus, in 1744, the first children's book of an entertaining nature called "A Little Pretty Pocket Book" was published. Its author and publisher was John Newbery, a popularizer of children's books at that time. The publication had a beautiful cover and captivated children with fun games and colorful illustrations.

In the nineteenth century, G.H. Andersen began collecting European folk tales. For this purpose, he even goes on a journey through the cities and villages of Europe. Just like the Brothers Grimm, who made a collection of German fairy tales, he makes a collection of fairy tales from European countries.

The first printed children's book in Ukraine appeared in 1574. It was an educational publication called Russian Grammar, or Primer.

April 2 is also International Fact Check Day. The event was launched to engage society in the development of critical thinking and raise awareness of the existence of false and misleading information.

In addition, today is also the Day of Reconciliation. This positive event was established to encourage societies to coexist peacefully and to stop hiding grievances and try to reconcile with all those with whom they have not found common ground or to let go of the situation from their hearts.

According to the church calendar, today is the Day of Remembrance of St. Titus the Wonderworker, who lived in Constantinople in the ninth century.

From a young age Titus decided to devote his life to serving the Lord and took monastic vows. He was a leader and a theologian. For his unwavering faith, he received from the Lord the gift of healing and miracles.

On April 2, Hryhorii, Mykyta, and Fedora celebrate their name days.
