Police in Lviv region expose drug trafficking scheme in a penal colony and seize cannabis worth UAH 10 million

In Lviv region, police uncovered a drug trafficking scheme operating out of a penal colony, seizing cannabis worth UAH 10 million and detaining all members of the criminal group.
In Lviv region, police exposed and detained drug traffickers who were selling their goods in a penal colony. Along the way, law enforcement officers neutralized two drug laboratories and seized cannabis worth 10 million hryvnias. According to law enforcement officers, the offenders organized the sale of drugs and psychotropic substances on the territory of Drohobych Correctional Colony No. 40. Moreover, the leader of the criminal gang, who developed and set up the sales scheme, was himself behind bars at the time.
To sell the finished products, the defendant involved a number of "trusted" persons both from among the prison inmates and from the outside. One of the participants monitored the functioning of drug laboratories, while others were responsible for the formation of "orders" and their "transfer" through the guarded perimeter to the prison territory.
Measures to detain all members of the group were carried out in two stages.
On March 5, law enforcement officers conducted the first stage of measures and detained two suspects during the transfer of another batch to the detention center.
The detainees and two of their accomplices were served with a notice of suspicion.
On March 12, police raided drug labs and detained a gang member who was responsible for their operation.
According to investigators, the owners of the illegal business set up drug labs in two private houses in Lviv district. They equipped the premises with special heating, lighting, automatic irrigation, soil and air fertilization systems, etc.
As a result of the second stage of the operation, the police seized cannabis worth UAH 10 million.
One of the detainees was served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 310 (Sowing or growing of sleeping poppies or hemp) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Currently, all members of the drug gang exposed by law enforcement are in custody. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
