Ukraine has registered 5 cases of a new sub-variant of the Omicron coronavirus - FLiRT. This strain could have provoked a significant part of the recent epidemic wave, according to the Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine.
Ukraine has registered 5 cases of FLiRT, a new sub-variant of the Omicron coronavirus that could have triggered a significant portion of the diseases in this epidemic wave, Deputy Minister of Health and Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Igor Kuzin said at a briefing on Monday, UNN reports.

"Those countries that reported an increase in the incidence also identified that this is a new subtype of the Omicron strain - FLiRT. Based on the results of sequencing in Ukraine, we have also identified it. We already have 5 positive samples based on the results of full ion sequencing," Kuzin said.
According to him, the identification of only 5 cases of the new FLiRT strain among the total does not exclude the possibility that this sub-variant is responsible for most of the cases of the disease, which increased significantly last month.
