Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supported a diplomatic initiative to de-escalate the conflict with Iran, emphasizing the positive impact of a ceasefire on global energy markets. Zelenskyy stated this in his evening address, as reported by UNN.
Today, the United States moved to diplomacy in the situation around Iran, and the world supports this. A ceasefire always adds opportunities for diplomacy and should precede a true end to the war. Ukraine has always approached this war – Russia's war against Ukraine – with the same position. Of course, it is not easy to implement, and now in the Middle East, efforts are still needed to stabilize the ceasefire, to make it work. But ultimately, everyone should have one goal, namely – more security. Even the announcement of a ceasefire has already allowed markets to react positively – the price of oil has decreased. This is also a correct signal to Russia – that in addition to our long-range sanctions, other tools will also work
He noted that there are currently virtually no reasons to reduce sanctions pressure, adding that this was previously discussed as a supposed necessity to alleviate problems in the global oil market.
And if the Strait of Hormuz is unblocked – and this is a global necessity – Russian oil revenues should continue to decline. Oil fuels the Russian war and makes Russia confident. And that is why the Russians invested so much in supporting the Iranian regime, trying to drag out that war. No one needs war. And it is important that now not only the countries of the Middle East, not only the Gulf, but also Europe, and other key parts of the world draw the right conclusions, specifically security conclusions, after what happened. More bilateral security cooperation between countries is needed – with those who truly know how to protect lives. More coordination with neighbors and more interaction at the regional level are needed: by helping neighbors, you help yourself. We must truly resolutely defend the basic values of normal life – the tools for this exist – and, among other things, protect free navigation
The head of state noted that now the whole world has seen how much each country depends on what happens in one region, and the cost of living depends on it – all prices for basic energy resources.
There is no need to check what will happen if some other critical region loses security. We need to act and interact to increase security. Ukraine is ready to work with all partners further so that security exists and is greater. We are preparing relevant meetings and agreements in Europe
