Work on the draft law on demobilization is ongoing - Ministry of Defense

The Ministry of Defense, together with the General Staff, is working on the preparation of a draft law on demobilization. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Defense for Digital Development and Digitalization Kateryna Chernogorenko during the "Question Time to the Government" in Parliament, reports UNN.

When asked when the law on terms of service would be submitted, Chernogorenko replied: "The Ministry of Defense, together with the General Staff, is working on the preparation of this draft law. It is very important to understand that the position of the General Staff, the position of the Commander-in-Chief, the Chief of the General Staff is very important for this draft law, because they are responsible for the success of military operations that are currently being conducted by our servicemen."

Chernogorenko noted that this is a very important bill.

We understand its social significance both for our military and for the Ministry of Defense, for the General Staff. We need joint work here, and we are doing it very quickly.

On January 10, First Deputy Minister of Defense Ivan Gavrylyuk stated that the draft law on demobilization is ready for submission to the Verkhovna Rada. Another 3 months are needed to work out the implementation mechanisms and replace the military.

People's Deputy, Secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Roman Kostenko stated in January 2025 that discussions are underway regarding the demobilization of the military, but this is unlikely under the current mobilization conditions. Currently, more attention is paid to the rotation of units that are on the front line.

In February, People's Deputy, member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Fedir Venislavsky stated that the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, together with representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, considered the issue of how to introduce mandatory leave for the military and provide for additional leave.
