During NATO exercises on the Swedish island of Gotland, Ukrainian military personnel used drones to conventionally "destroy" up to 20 tanks during a mechanized offensive. This was reported by Politico, according to UNN.
Details
The exercises took place as part of the first NATO-coordinated military operation on the island since Sweden joined the Alliance in 2024. Approximately 18,000 troops from 13 countries participated in the maneuvers.
As the publication writes, the Ukrainian UAV operator unit demonstrated the superiority of modern drone warfare, effectively disrupting part of the exercise scenario.
"We had a mission with a scenario of an attack by a mechanized unit involving up to 20 battle tanks. I just launched my drone - I saw them all, and they were easy targets,"
According to him, due to the actions of the Ukrainian operators, the Swedish military had to restart part of the exercise three times.
The article notes that the exercises also demonstrated how far Ukraine and Russia are ahead of NATO in the field of mass drone application and adaptation to new conditions of warfare.
The commander of the regiment on Gotland, Andreas Gustafsson, admitted after the exercises that the Swedish military must train significantly more with the use of drones.
"My main conclusion is that we must train much more with drones,"
