The first defense package for Ukraine within the EU-approved 90 billion euro loan will be directed toward drones and will amount to approximately 6 billion euros, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced during a speech at the European Parliament on Wednesday, UNN reports.
"In the spring, we said we would provide a loan of 90 billion euros – one way or another. Now we have fulfilled that promise. We will allocate the first tranche of 45 billion euros for 2026 as early as this quarter. One-third is intended for budgetary needs, two-thirds for Ukraine's defense. The first defense package will be directed toward drones from Ukraine, for Ukraine – worth about 6 billion euros,"
The President of the European Commission stated that "the message is clear: we will continue to support the brave Ukrainian people and their armed forces."
"While Russia doubles down on its aggression, Europe doubles down on our support for Ukraine," she indicated.
