The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has rejected Russia's accusations of alleged Ukrainian involvement in the death of a person as a result of a drone strike near the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The ministry emphasized that Moscow has provided no evidence to support its version, reports UNN.
Details
The MFA noted that information disseminated by occupation structures created by Russia cannot be considered truthful without independent confirmation.
No independent confirmation of the Russian version or evidence of Ukraine's involvement has been presented, and information from Russian occupation structures cannot be considered reliable
The ministry called for considering Moscow's new accusations in the context of the ongoing escalation of the situation around the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the city of Enerhodar. The Ukrainian side also recalled Russian attacks on the plant's workers, its facilities, and the city's civilian infrastructure.
According to the MFA's assessment, Russia is trying to intimidate the international community with the threat of a nuclear accident while simultaneously portraying Ukraine as a source of danger. Moscow is also increasing political pressure on the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, attempting to shift responsibility for the consequences of the plant's occupation onto Kyiv.
The ministry stressed that the main cause of threats to the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains its illegal seizure by Russian troops, the placement of weapons on the plant's territory, and the use of the nuclear facility for military purposes.
The IAEA Board of Governors and General Conference have repeatedly called on Russia to withdraw military and other unauthorized personnel from the plant, cease illegal management of the ZNPP, and return it to Ukraine's control. However, Moscow ignores these demands and continues to keep troops, representatives of Rosatom, and the occupation administration at the plant.
According to the MFA, Russia has also not abandoned its intentions to integrate the Zaporizhzhia NPP into its energy system.
Ukraine expects the IAEA Secretariat to adhere to the principles of objectivity and impartiality, and also to avoid steps that could appear as recognition of the occupation administration created by Russia at the plant.
The MFA called on international partners not to succumb to Russian information manipulations and to increase pressure on Moscow. This concerns the implementation of IAEA decisions, the demilitarization and liberation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and Enerhodar, as well as the return of the plant under the control of its legal operator — NNPC Energoatom.
Returning the plant under full Ukrainian control is not a political wish, but a non-alternative requirement of international law and a necessary prerequisite for maintaining nuclear safety in Europe
Recall
On July 14, the Zaporizhzhia NPP once again lost external power supply and was forced to switch to backup power. The plant's external power supply has now been restored. This is the tenth blackout since the beginning of 2026, Energoatom reported.
