As Europe now seeks to play a leading role in direct contacts with Russia, Ukraine states that U.S.-mediated negotiations are approaching a point of exhaustion, UNN reports with reference to the Independent.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated on Friday: "I have the impression that this format (U.S.-mediated - ed.) is gradually approaching a point where possible discussions at this level are being exhausted. Sometimes the same issues are discussed several times."
The publication notes that since the breakdown of negotiations in February, little tangible progress has been made in ending the war. And with the U.S. now preoccupied with Iran, Europe is considering the possibility of resuming dialogue with Vladimir Putin.
Sybiha assessed that Europe's involvement is one way to revitalize the process. Another option, he added, is a meeting at the leadership level, which is what Ukraine is striving for.
