Several wounded soldiers interviewed by The Post described how they were wounded in combat before being captured, including one who said he wounded himself with his own grenade, hoping he would die and not be captured. According to him, Ukrainian soldiers gave him first aid and then evacuated him to a clinic, where he underwent an X-ray and surgery to remove shrapnel from his wound.
The soldiers said they were well treated and provided with medical care. Their bandages looked clean and they said they were fed three meals a day, including soup, salad and porridge. According to the men, they were allowed to shower and were not mistreated.
