The supreme audit institutions of Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have supported an international audit on the education of Ukrainian children in Europe. The audit will cover the issues of access to education, preservation of national identity and integration issues.

The supreme audit institutions of Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have supported an international coordinated audit to ensure the right to education of Ukrainian children in European schools. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine.

Details.

On July 30-31, at the invitation of Marian Banas, President of the Supreme Chamber of Control of the Republic of Poland, a meeting of European officials took place.

The delegation of the Accounting Chamber was headed by the Chairman of the Accounting Chamber Olga Pishchanska.

The Chairman of the Accounting Chamber Olga Pishchanska emphasized that the welfare of Ukrainian children abroad is a priority for Ukraine.

She noted that in total, more than 2 million children from Ukraine have left the country since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. According to the educational ombudsman of Ukraine, about 800 thousand children integrated into the EU school system in 2022-2023.

However, there is no precise data on how many children are unable to study.

It is a matter of strategic importance that families who left the country because of the war maintain ties with Ukraine, return after our victory, and that Ukrainian children integrate seamlessly into their native society. The only way to maintain a sustainable connection with these children now is to guarantee them quality and permanent access to the Ukrainian educational system, which would support their national identity. It is also important to understand how many Ukrainian children have and how many do not have access to education abroad, and how good and effective this education is. We need to promote the involvement of those who are not studying, as well as to establish whether they face difficulties

- Olga Pishchanska emphasized.

According to her, the main issues of the audits of the SAIs of European countries will be:

  • To what extent do Ukrainian children in European countries have access to school education?
  • To what extent do Ukrainian children in European countries have the opportunity to continue their education in Ukrainian schools (without losing their national identity)?
  • What problems do Ukrainian children face in schools in host countries?
  • whether the governments of European countries have data on the number of Ukrainian students and the amount of resources allocated for their education, etc.

At the same time, the key issues of the audit of the Accounting Chamber will be the following:

  • How does the Ministry of Education and Science ensure that Ukrainian children who are forced to stay in European countries can continue to receive general secondary education in Ukrainian schools?
  • To what extent do Ukrainian children in European countries have access to education in Ukrainian schools?
  • What electronic educational resources has the Ministry of Education and Science introduced for Ukrainian children living in European countries to study in Ukrainian schools, including distance learning and studying the Ukrainian component?
  • To what extent is Ukraine's general secondary education system adapted to the return of students from European countries

The ongoing war is a test of strength for hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian families and the national education system. But despite everything, we are obliged to care about the well-being of our children and help them survive these trials with the least possible losses and not forget Ukraine.

- Pishchanska emphasized.
