Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Trump administration has no intention of withdrawing from NATO but will not back down from the demand for significant reforms.
Rubio told lawmakers on Wednesday that the U.S. President plans to attend the annual NATO leaders' summit in Turkey next month, where he will lay out the U.S. case for change and again call on allies to increase their defense spending. The summit will take place in Ankara on July 7-8.
"The President himself will attend the next NATO summit, the meeting of heads of state, where all these points will be clearly laid out. We are still in NATO, but NATO needs significant changes, and the President has made that clear," Rubio said.
