The US President announced Iran's violation of the ceasefire before negotiations. Tehran also accuses Washington and announced the preparation of new measures.

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Iran "violated the ceasefire" reached two weeks ago, "numerous times", UNN writes.

"Iran has Violated the Cease Fire numerous times!" Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.

As the BBC notes, Iran has also accused Washington of violating the truce.

On Sunday, the Iranian military vowed to respond to what they called an "act of armed piracy" by the United States. "An American destroyer fired on an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman. Washington said the ship was trying to circumvent a naval blockade," the BBC points out.

In response, Iran's military headquarters said the US operation was a "violation of the truce."

Such statements come as the parties are expected to hold a second round of talks in Pakistan this week.

US President Donald Trump, as CNN notes, insisted yesterday, ahead of the expected talks in Pakistan, that Iran "is going to negotiate."

Speaking in a brief phone interview on the conservative radio program The John Fredericks Show, Trump expressed confidence that Tehran would come to the negotiating table, while warning of consequences if it did not.

"Well, they're going to negotiate, and if not, they're going to face problems they've never seen before," the president said.

"Hopefully they'll make a fair deal and rebuild their country," Trump continued, adding that when they do, "they won't have nuclear weapons."

Before ending the conversation, Trump reportedly resorted to justifying military action. "And I have to say, we had no choice in Iran," he said. "We had no choice. We had to do it."

"We've done a great job, and we're going to finish it, and everyone will be happy," he added before hanging up.

Meanwhile, Tehran's chief negotiator, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said that Iran would not negotiate "under the shadow of a threat" and had prepared "new cards on the battlefield."

"Trump, by imposing a blockade and violating the ceasefire, seeks, in his opinion, to turn the negotiating table into a surrender table or to justify a renewed escalation of the war," he wrote in a post on X. "We do not agree to negotiations under the shadow of a threat, and over the past 2 weeks we have been preparing to reveal new cards on the battlefield."
