Zelenskyy stated that threats to the energy system and the ZNPP are comparable to the Chernobyl disaster. The President called on partners for unity against Russian aggression.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that modern threats related to Russia's actions regarding Ukrainian energy infrastructure, particularly the Zaporizhzhia NPP, are comparable to the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. He said this during a meeting with the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, on Sunday, April 26, UNN reports.

Details

The Head of State recalled that today marks the 40th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, emphasizing that this tragedy remains not only a historical fact but also a relevant warning for the present day.

Today, the threats are no less significant because of what Russia is doing to our Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and to Ukraine's energy sector and territory in general,

- Zelenskyy noted, adding that the occupation of the Chernobyl NPP in 2022 demonstrated a lack of lessons learned from past disasters.

The President emphasized the need for maximum unity between neighboring states and European partners to counter Russian aggression, which, according to him, brings war, terror, and instability.

As a reminder

Earlier, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas stated that Russian strikes on the protective containment of the Chernobyl NPP are an act of recklessness. The illegal seizure of the Zaporizhzhia NPP increases the danger to life and the environment.
