German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that it makes no sense to lift sanctions against the Russian Federation until peace is achieved. In his opinion, lifting sanctions would be a serious mistake.

According to him, lifting sanctions now would be a serious mistake, as peace is still far away. He emphasized that it seems obvious that Russia is not really interested in establishing peace.
Scholz noted that the United States and Europe should take a clear common position on this issue, as it has been so far. He added that the United States should support everything that is agreed upon in Europe regarding assistance to Ukraine, which is defending itself.
