The Ministry of Justice showcased a 1372 charter regarding the status of the Kingdom of Rus. The document confirms Ukraine's European ties and refutes the Kremlin's historical myths.

The Ministry of Justice presented a unique 14th-century charter confirming the European ties of the Kingdom of Rus and the use of this name in Latin-language sources of that time. The document is considered an important historical piece of evidence that refutes Kremlin myths regarding the history of Ukrainian lands, UNN reports.

The history of Ukraine is preserved not only in chronicles. It is etched in documents, seals, and charters that for centuries have confirmed the continuity of the Ukrainian state tradition and its deep European roots,

- the message reads.

One such unique document was presented by the State Archival Service of Ukraine. It is an original charter of King Louis I the Great dated October 10, 1372, which is kept in the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in Lviv (F. 131, op. 1, file 7).

The document is written on parchment in Latin and guarantees the merchants of Rus the right to free movement, trade, and royal protection within the territories of the Hungarian and Polish kingdoms after the payment of duties.

The charter holds particular value as historical evidence. In 14th-century Latin sources, the name "Kingdom of Rus" (Regnum Russiae) was used in reference to Galicia and the heritage of the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia.

The artifact testifies that Ukrainian lands were part of the political, economic, and legal space of Central and Eastern Europe in the 14th century.

The 1372 charter also records the use of the name "Rus" in relation to the lands of modern-day Ukraine.

A digital copy of the document can be viewed in the "Unique Documents of the National Archival Fund" section on the web portal of the State Archival Service of Ukraine.
