Many Ukrainians are concerned about which documents will be checked when crossing the border into other countries. In particular, people often worry whether having loans or being on sick leave will become an issue. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has clarified which documents border guards actually pay attention to when crossing the state border, UNN reports.
Can you be denied exit abroad if you have loans or are on sick leave?
When crossing the border, citizens' credit obligations are not checked. In particular, border guards are not interested in the presence of loans, installments, or mortgages.
The same applies to being on sick leave. Disability certificates are not checked at the border, so this circumstance itself cannot be a ground for refusal of exit abroad.
Border guards can refuse exit from Ukraine only on grounds expressly defined by legislation.
In particular, a citizen of Ukraine's right to exit Ukraine may be temporarily restricted in cases where:
- a preventive measure has been applied to them in the manner prescribed by criminal procedural legislation, under the terms of which they are prohibited from traveling abroad;
- they are convicted of committing a criminal offense;
- they evade the fulfillment of obligations imposed on them by a court decision or a decision of other bodies (officials), which is subject to compulsory execution in the manner established by law;
- they are under the administrative supervision of the National Police;
- on the basis of a court decision (ruling) or a resolution of the State Enforcement Service (in particular, due to persistent non-payment of alimony);
- an instruction from authorized state bodies of Ukraine is being executed if the person is wanted by law enforcement agencies;
- in the absence of all necessary
documents that grant the right to cross the border.
All other reasons not provided for by law cannot be a ground for denial of exit
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded that during martial law, all men aged 18 to 60 must carry a military registration document in electronic or paper form (in accordance with Clause 6, Article 22 of the Law of Ukraine "On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization"). This document will be checked by a representative of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in the border strip, controlled border district, and at checkpoints across the state border of Ukraine during crossing.
