The Ambassador of Ukraine stated that the Defense Forces did not direct drones toward Bulgaria. Ukraine is open to cooperation in the investigation of the incident that occurred on August 8.

Ukraine’s Defense Forces did not direct unmanned aerial vehicles toward Bulgaria or toward any other partner country; the Ukrainian side is fully open to cooperation in the investigation. This was emphasized by Ukraine’s Ambassador Olesia Ilashchuk during a meeting with Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova, reports UNN.

On August 10, Ukraine’s Ambassador Olesia Ilashchuk was invited to a meeting with Velislava Petrova-Chamova, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, in connection with the incident involving a drone falling on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria on August 8, 2026.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian ambassador assured that:

- Ukraine’s Defense Forces did not direct unmanned aerial vehicles toward Bulgaria or toward any other partner country;

- the Ukrainian side is fully open to cooperation in the investigation;

- the main cause of the incident is Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine;

- Russia is shelling the civilian population and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine with increasing ferocity, which also poses a direct threat to neighboring countries;

- ending the war as soon as possible is critically important for ensuring security in the region;

- Ukraine counts on stronger efforts by the international community to force the Kremlin to make peace.

The embassy added that it had been agreed to continue close coordination as part of the investigation into the causes of the incident.

Recall

A drone exploded in the sky over Bulgaria near the border with Romania; its type has not yet been established. No one was injured in the incident, and the infrastructure was not damaged either.

The Bulgarian Ministry conducted an analysis of the drone’s fragments, which exploded near a compressor station of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, and concluded that the UAV could have been Ukrainian.
