The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy hosted a constituent meeting of the Coordinating Committee for the implementation of the Council of Europe's "Journalists Matter" campaign. UNN writes about what was discussed during this meeting with a link to the press service of the ICIP.
Our Coordination Committee was established to conduct professional consultations, promptly address issues and implement the Council of Europe's five-year campaign on the safety of journalists in Ukraine. We also need to develop a common approach to addressing the safety of media representatives and supporting their professional activities during martial law.

Acting Minister of Culture Rostyslav Karandeyev noted that the newly created committee will also propose measures "to ensure clear and accessible communications between the military and society, as well as to respond to cases of violations of the right to freedom of speech."
The committee includes representatives of the National Police, the Ministry of Defense, the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting, the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Institute of Mass Information, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, the Commission on Journalistic Ethics, independent media experts, and other specialists. Their functions include assessing the needs and challenges of the environment in which journalists work, providing recommendations for the implementation of the Journalists Matter campaign at the national level, and protecting freedom of expression in Ukraine.
During the first meeting of the committee, the experts discussed the organization of work on the release of Ukrainian media workers in captivity, tools for conducting self-assessments in the context of protecting journalism and the safety of media workers, as well as the preparation of an Action Plan for the implementation of the Council of Europe's Journalists Matter campaign in Ukraine.
