Sweden has detained the sanctioned vessel Jin Hui due to its links to the Russian shadow fleet. The ship was towed to port for an investigation.

The Swedish Coast Guard has detained a sanctioned vessel off the coast of Trelleborg.  This was reported by the Swedish Minister for Civil Defence, Carl-Oskar Bohlin, as cited by SVT and reported by UNN.

Details

According to the minister, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 3, in Swedish territorial waters, at approximately 14:00.

The operation was carried out in cooperation between the Coast Guard, the police, and the National Task Force, with support from aviation units.

According to the authorities, the vessel named "Jin Hui" is suspected of belonging to the Russian "shadow fleet" and may have been using a false flag.

The Coast Guard noted that the vessel is under sanctions by the EU, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine.

The reason for the intervention was suspicion of violations of maritime law and the vessel's technical unseaworthiness. It has now been towed to an anchorage for further investigation.

Law enforcement officials report that investigators and Coast Guard officers are working on board, but no arrests have been made yet. The investigation is ongoing.

Recall

On April 29, Swedish police arrested the vessel Caffa at the request of another state. It is suspected of illegally transporting grain from occupied Crimea.
