The man accused of attacking OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's home in San Francisco has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and arson. This was reported by the Associated Press, according to UNN.

According to the investigation, 20-year-old Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama threw a flammable mixture at Altman's house, causing the outer gates to catch fire. He then fled and appeared less than an hour later at OpenAI headquarters, where law enforcement officials say he threatened to burn down the building.
The suspect did not speak during the court hearing – his position was voiced by his lawyer.
Defense claims mental health crisis, court orders evaluation
The suspect's lawyer stated that her client is experiencing a mental health crisis and had no intention of causing harm.
"Daniel is a kind, hardworking person who publicly advocates for peaceful measures to combat the danger of artificial intelligence to humanity,"
She also emphasized that the incident is a result of mental health issues rather than deliberate aggression. The court granted the defense's motion for a psychiatric evaluation. The next hearing is scheduled for the end of the month.
Prosecution brings serious charges
The San Francisco District Attorney stated that this was a "targeted attack on Mr. Altman" and that the investigation has relevant evidence.

Moreno-Gama also faces federal charges, including possession of an unregistered weapon and use of explosives. In total, he faces 19 years to life imprisonment on state charges, as well as additional terms under federal statutes.
According to the investigation, the suspect had previously expressed sharp criticism of artificial intelligence, calling it a threat to humanity.
