NATO leaders are gathering for an anniversary summit in Washington, D.C., with the top priority of supporting Ukraine's defense against Russian invasion, to coordinate aid and provide more ammunition, air defense equipment and other assistance.

NATO is starting its anniversary summit in Washington, and support for Ukraine's fight against Russian invasion is at the top of the agenda. This was reported by UNN with reference to Voice of America.

NATO leaders are expected to finalize a plan to integrate what are currently individual national efforts to assist Ukraine's defense forces into a NATO-coordinated program.

This aid should also be expanded with new pledges of ammunition, air defense equipment, and other assistance.

The summit will also discuss the so-called "bridge" for Ukraine to NATO membership.

Tuesday's agenda includes a roundtable discussion on "Women, Peace and Security" organized by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will address a meeting of defense industry leaders and NATO officials to discuss how to increase defense production in the face of the war in Ukraine.

Increasing the production and replenishment of weapons and ammunition stockpiles is now the focus of NATO allies' attention, as they seek to both support the Ukrainian army and provide the alliance with what it needs for its own defense.

On Tuesday evening, U.S. President Biden will speak at a ceremony marking NATO's 75th anniversary.

Biden enters the summit amid questions within the US about his re-election campaign following a debate in late June that reignited concerns about his age. The president insists that he is up to the challenges of the position and will continue to run for re-election.

NATO allies may have questions of their own, as Biden's rival, former President Donald Trump, has criticized NATO and the level of U.S. support for the alliance during his tenure.
